NATCHEZ &045; Adams County polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today for the runoffs in the Republican and Democratic primaries.
Today’s voting works much like voting in the Aug. 5 primary &045; each person can only vote on one party ticket.
And, people must vote in the same party primary they voted in on Aug. 5.
&uot;If they voted for a particular party in the first primary, they have to vote the same political party in the second primary,&uot; Deputy Clerk Marjorie Alexander said.
Voted Republican on Aug. 5? Must vote Republican on Aug. 26.
Voted Democrat on Aug. 5? Must vote Democrat on Aug. 26.
Didn’t vote on Aug. 5?
&uot; Then you have to declare (a party to vote for), but you have to vote for a political party,&uot; Alexander said.
When November comes, that is when voters can cross party lines. Circuit Clerk M.L. &uot;Binkey&uot; Vines named two problems that occurred Aug. 5 which he is hoping to remedy in voting today. &uot;If (people) go to vote and their name is not listed in poll vote book, vote by affidavit ballot,&uot; Vines said.
Vines said the office will determine if the voter not listed is a legitimate voter later, so voters should vote by affidavit and not leave the precinct.
A second problem: &uot;We had some problem in last election where some people were uninformed whether to vote Democrat or Republican,&uot; Vines said.
If a voter is handed the wrong ballot, Vines said to tell the bailiff and get the right ballot.
