Ten-year-old riding bike dies after being struck by vehicle, police say

NATCHEZ &045;&045; A 10-year-old boy was killed Sunday afternoon when he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle at the corner of Whites Lane and George West Boulevard, police said.

Witnesses said the victim, Alexander Ryekeem, 601 Old Washington Road, Apartment 5-A, was riding his bicycle near Whites Lane when he rode in front of a car, said Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins.

Mullins said the driver of the car was unable to avoid striking the child.

Police officers administered CPR at the scene until paramedics arrived, he said.

The child was transported to Natchez Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

There was &uot;no evidence it was anything other than an accident,&uot; Mullins said, though he added the case is still under investigation.
