MyFamily.com, Inc., a leading online subscription business and the leading network for connection families, and A&E Television Networks (AETN) announced this week that MyFamily has acquired Genealogy.com, the producer of the award-winning family tree software, Family Tree Maker, and provider of extensive online genealogy resources.
Genealogy.com will now join the MyFamily network of websites &045; Ancestry.com, MyFamily.com, and RootsWeb.com &045; to give customers a full complement of Internet services focused on connecting families with their histories and one another.
In addition, MyFamily will receive promotion on AETN television properties. AETN is comprised of A&E Network, The History Channel, The Biography Channel, History International, AETN International, AETN Consumer Products and Biography Magazine.
This international media company offers consumers a diverse communications environment ranging from television programming, magazine publishing, and websites to books, music CDs and home videos/DVDs all supporting nationwide educational initiatives.
Genealogy.com will continue to offer its wide variety of products and services including Family Tree Maker and its dynamic roster of online subscription products.
MyFamily plans to improve upon the products and services Genealogy.com currently offers as it joins MyFamily’s strong product line of free and subscription Web sites, software, databases on CD-ROM, GenForum message boards, and magazines such as Ancestry and Genealogical Computing.
The network of Web sites represented by these groups already receives over a 10 million unique visitors each month and has more than one million paid subscriptions, so this merger is big business indeed.
With family history research becoming one of the fastest growing hobbies in the U.S. today, the potential for developing even bigger and better services is certainly there. Stay tuned to see what interesting things come from this merger.
