Trinity’s Knee doing better after stroke

The way Kent Knee sees it, all he had was a little stroke.

The man who has kept statistics of games at Trinity Episcopal since the 1980-81 school year had to miss a couple games two weeks ago because of what he thought was his eyesight going bad.

Needless to say it caused a stir with coaches at Trinity during his absence.

And for us, it was somewhat of a dilemma getting the scores in the paper since Mr. Knee’s calls or faxes are the most consistent thing we know.

&uot;I had a little stroke, but it’s all right,&uot; Knee said.&160;&uot;I couldn’t see very well. Everything is pretty good. There’s no permanent damage or anything.&uot;

And everything was OK&160;until Trinity’s games back on Dec. 13 against WCCA when Mr. Knee discovered something just wasn’t right.

He had trouble finding the spot to log a basket under the correct name, and by the time he did someone scored again.

&uot;We had four games at home,&uot;&160;Knee said. &uot;I&160;had been having trouble with my glasses, and I had gotten them to change it to a different type.

&uot;It looked pretty good, but that morning I took a little nap, woke up and couldn’t see well at all. I went to the gym, tried to keep the book and said, ‘This I can’t do.’&uot;

He shrugged it off a bit Friday and tried to come back Saturday when the Saints and Lady Saints had a doubleheader scheduled at Central Private in Central, La., some 90 minutes away.

Mr. Knee hadn’t shaved that day, and he tried to crank up the electric razor. Getting it on was fine &045; until he realized he was trying to shave while holding the razor backward.

So he went to the home of girls’ head coach Melanie Hall to give her the books and inform her he couldn’t do it.

&uot;I drove to Melanie’s home to give her the books and tried to explain to her to how to get to Central Private,&uot; Knee said. &uot;I felt very bad for her. I knew she didn’t know how to get there. I tried to explain to her, and she kind of game me funny looks. I made sense to myself, but I know she called somebody right after I left, which is good.

&uot;Things got a little hairy that day.&uot;

That’s when Mr. Knee went checked in to the hospital, and doctors said he may have actually had two strokes &045; &uot;I may have had another sometime way back.&uot;

Mr. Knee took some time away before getting back on the bench taking stats.

He attended the Trinity’s game in New Orleans Tuesday against Jackson Academy but wasn’t up to keeping the official book.

The eyesight is coming back, and he’s starting to drive again. Trinity student Lacy Johnson is helping keep the book in the meantime.

&uot;Everything is good, but my perception is a little off,&uot;&160;he said. &uot;Now I can drive without any problem. Things are getting a little better.&uot;

You know, just a little stroke.
