NATCHEZ &045;&045; One week after they last appeared before Adams County supervisors, a father and daughter were back again to protest a gate that has been erected across Lindo Lane.

On Oct. 6 the board voted to have the owner of the gate, Lee Jones, remove the gate if it was determined to be across a public road.

Surveyors determined the road was public and tried to contact Jones to remove it. Jones is currently out of the country.

&uot;I don’t know why we’re giving him so much leeway to remove this gate,&uot; Colette Townsend-Chambers said.

District 1 Supervisor Samuel L. &uot;Sammy&uot; Cauthen said he told Jones’ relative to remove the lock from the gate so the road would be accessible for Townsend-Chambers.

&uot;I don’t understand so much courtesy to Mr. Jones, Mr. Cauthen,&uot; Townsend-Chambers said.

She said she, her father and legal counsel met with Jones before he left, telling him the gate was across a public road and asked him to remove it.

But the matter was resolved Monday.

The gate &uot;has been ordered by this board to be taken down,&uot; board Vice President Darryl Grennell said.

&uot;Take it down today,&uot; he instructed Adams County Road Manger Bobby Powell.

Another Adams County resident, the Rev. Chester W. Cain Sr., addressed the board about a drainage problem on Pinemount Road.

When it rains, Cain said, water from both sides of the road runs into resident Martha Jones’ back yard.

&uot;It is something that needs to be fixed,&uot; Cain said.

Cain said he was told the board could fix the problem even though the water runs on private property, because the water comes from the county road.

The board asked attorney Bob Latham to look into the statute regarding what the county could do to divert the water.

Also during Monday’s meeting, Civil Defense Director George Souderes asked for a board signature on the Emergency Management Assistance Program report to the state.

4 Gave the board a copy of the new flood plain preventive ordinance to review.

4Told the board an analysis of the 10 most vulnerable areas in the county was mailed to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

Each county in Mississippi was asked to turn in a risk analysis.

In Adams County, 10 members of different agencies in the county met to write the analysis.

4 Approved travel for District 2 Supervisor Virginia Salmon to attend a meeting of the Mississippi Association of Supervisors’ Education Committee Oct. 30 in Jackson.

4 Discussed personnel matters, industrial development and possible litigation in executive session.
