NATCHEZ — After a rash of burglaries of unlocked vehicles during the past two weeks, the Natchez Police Department is reminding residents to keep their vehicle’s doors locked all times.

Natchez Lt. Craig Godbold said nine vehicles, most of which were unlocked, were burglarized Tuesday. Seven of the cars were parked at Bienville Apartments, one on North Rankin Street and one on North Union Street.

Godbold said the burglar only rifled through the contents of most of the cars, but he said the burglar did take a couple of checkbooks, a wallet, an iPod and soft drinks from a few cars.

Two unlocked cars on Alabama Street and one unlocked car on Shead Baldwin Lane Street, Godbold said, were burglarized last week.

Godbold said the thief escaped with a .38 Derringer handgun, a Panasonic CD player and a Sony Walkman.

Anyone with any information on the burglaries should call NPD at 601-445-5565 or Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000.
