JONESVILLE — Services for Bessie Price Smith, 94, of Jonesville, who died Monday, May 28, 2012, at LaSalle General Hospital in Jena, La., will be at 10 a.m. today at Sandy Lake Pentecostal Church with Bro. Joel Ford and Bro. Lloyd Trisler officiating.

Burial will follow at Heard Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Jonesville.

Mrs. Smith was born Nov. 27, 1917, in Jena, the daughter of Homer and Josie Price. She was a homemaker and a member of Sandy Lake Pentecostal Church

“Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” Proverbs 31:20.

Momma was the rock of our family. She was a loving mother, wife, strong woman, great cook, garden tender, clothes washer and clothes maker. She will be dearly missed by us all, but is now in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Smith; her parents; two brothers, Willie Price and Jim Homer Price; and two sisters, Shirley Graham and Rose Ford.

Survivors include two daughters, Gail White and husband, Darrell, and Betty Jo Moreland and husband, Kent, of Monterey; five sons, A.J. Smith and wife, Evelyn, of Monterey, Harvey Smith and wife, Lillie, Lavon Smith and wife, Vera, Carl Edward, and Louis Smith and wife, Sue, all of Jonesville; two brothers, Ben Morris and wife, Pauline, of Jena and Sam Morris and wife, Mildred, of Corpus Christi, Texas; one sister, Vivian Brooks of Houston, Texas; one sister-in-law, Dottie Price of Jena; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Smith, Darrell White Jr., John Wesley Smith, Jonathan Smith, Scotty Smart and Steve Moreland.
