Shop early and often but shop at home

We admit it was a bit strange to see Christmas lights sparkling downtown even before little ghosts and goblins went trick or treating this year.

But if it gets residents and visitors in the mood for holiday shopping, we’re all for it.

If last weekend’s traffic during downtown Natchez open houses is any indication, those lights may have done the trick.

We can’t understate the importance of shopping at home for holiday gifts &045;&045; and throughout the year.

Our local business owners offer a wide range of merchandise right here in the Miss-Lou. You can find just about anything you need by shopping the aisles of local stores. From gift and antique stores downtown &045;&045; including a new toy store and pet store &045;&045; to the department stores at the mall, we have plenty of places to feed a shopper’s habit.

While you’re at it, encourage friends to come shop in Natchez for the holidays. Most likely they will find some unique treasures to put under the tree.

Shopping at home is not just about being friendly to local businesses.

Keeping our money here in Natchez means that these businesses can stay open, which feeds our entire economy by providing jobs and providing more money to be spent throughout the community. Not to mention the fact that city sales tax receipts help provide services to all of its residents.

As you make your list and check it twice, please make sure you take it to local businesses.
