Jefferson County puts away Davidson girls; FC boys win

ST. JOSEPH, La. &045; Jacqueline Pender scored a game-high 25 points to help Jefferson County overcome a five-point halftime deficit as the Lady Tigers took a 62-58 win over

the Davidson Lady Warriors Tuesday night.

Jefferson County (2-6) and Davidson were tied 11-11 after one quarter of play, but the Lady Warriors outscored the Lady Tigers 17-12 in the second quarter to grab a 28-23 halftime lead.

But the Lady Tigers got going on the offensive end in the second half as they outscored Davidson 18-13 in the third quarter to tie the score at 41 and then took a 21-17 advantage in the fourth quarter for the come-from-behind win.

Michelle Gaines had 13 points and Stacy Thomas added 10 points for Jefferson County. Jessica Wisner led Davidson with 21 points and Adrienne Jones added 11 points.

FC boys 76, Tylertown 57

MEADVILLE &045; Eddie O’Quinn led four Franklin County players in double figures with 20 points as the Bulldogs used a big second quarter to brake a tie game en route to the 19-point win at home over the Chiefs Tuesday night.

Ronnie Williams had 14 points, Zachary Thomas added 13 points and Marcus Tillman chipped in with 10 points for the Bulldogs.

&uot;We played pretty well defensively,&uot; Bulldogs head coach Chris Jordan said. &uot;I know 57 points doesn’t sound like it.&uot;

Franklin County (3-0) held Tylertown to just 22 points in the first half and scored 21 points of its own in the second quarter alone to brake a 12-12 score at the end of the first quarter to take a 33-22 halftime lead.

&uot;We did a good job breaking their press. We got some easy lay-ups because of that,&uot; Jordan said.

Even though Franklin County scored 43 points in the second half, Tylertown got it going on its offensive end and scored 35 points. But the Chiefs were unable to overcome what happened in the second quarter.

&uot;We scored a lot better in the second half,&uot; Jordan said. &uot;They outplayed us in the second half, even though the score doesn’t reflect it. We had a lot of turnovers, a lot of bad passes.&uot;

JC boys 64, Davidson 75

The Warriors held Jefferson County to just eight points in the fourth quarter to take the win after trailing 33-31 at half.
