VIDALIA — After going through the trouble of cutting a telephone wire, an attempted burglar fled Reeves Drug Store Wednesday night empty handed and for an unknown reason.

Vidalia Assistant Police Chief Bruce Wiley said the attempted burglar cut a telephone wire to the store at approximately 12:52 p.m.

But shortly after, the suspect allegedly fled the scene.

Wiley said he’s hoping a video surveillance tape from the store will help identify the potential suspect and what made him unexpectedly flee the store.

“I’m not quite sure why he ran off, but something scared him away,” Wiley said. “While we examine the video tape, the matter is still under investigation.”

Police Chief Arthur Lewis said he will increase patrol around all area businesses to subdue any further incidents.
