NATCHEZ — A Natchez woman is in the intensive care unit at Natchez Community Hospital after she was viciously attacked by a pit bull Tuesday morning.
Beverly Gremillion was reportedly smoking a cigarette in the backyard at 11 Maplewood Lane when she suffered a seizure, fell to the ground and hit her head, according to police reports.
Elizabeth Nations, Gremillion’s mother, told police she was attempting to assist her daughter when a pit bull belonging to Gremillion’s daughter Amber Kirby charged and attacked Gremillion.
Both Nations and Kirby fought the dog off Gremillion. Nations suffered bite and scratch wounds that did not require medical attention.
Police on the scene described Gremillion’s wounds as severe, and concluded she was in need of surgery.
The hospital would not release Gremillion’s condition Wednesday.
The pitbull has since been removed from the residence, and Kirby is seeking to have the dog euthanized.
