NATCHEZ &045;&045; Reality TV may be coming to Natchez.
The producers of &uot;Who Wants to be a Millionaire&uot; and &uot;Junkyard Wars&uot; are accepting applications from the Natchez area for a TV show called &uot;The Swap.&uot;
In the show, two families from different parts of the country swap mothers for 10 days. For the first five days the visiting mother must live by the household rules already in place, but during the last five days, she can run things her own way.
&uot;Everyone who participates takes something different from it,&uot; said Stephanie Dervan of RDF Media/ABC. &uot;The reward and prize is all about the experience.&uot;
Dervan said the show has already received a few applications from Natchez, and those families sparked their interest in the area. Even though there are only six slots left, Dervan said interested families from Natchez have a real shot.
&uot;The odds are pretty good, because it is an original area and the families are probably a little bit different,&uot; she said. &uot;We haven’t done a lot of outreach in that area.&uot;
The show is looking for a family with two parents and children over the age of 2.
&uot;The Swap&uot; will air on ABC this summer. One episode has already been filmed, and others are in the making. Dervan said if a Natchez family is chosen, filming could begin here in as early as three weeks.
Because the show focuses on the daily routines of the family, the town will also be spotlighted.
&uot;We follow the moms going to the grocery store, to work and whatever they do,&uot; Dervan said.
Tourism Director Walter Tipton said it would be good for the community if the reality show filmed in Natchez.
&uot;You are looking at a town that has a tourism base, and national exposure would bring all kinds of people to Natchez,&uot; Tipton said. &uot;We already have national and international attractions, and having a reality show that awakens the U.S. market to what we have here would be phenomenal.&uot;
