What a jam-packed week it was! Our community had a major election, said goodbye to several groups of graduates and welcomed summer break at several schools.

This time of year can be the storm before the calm days of summer.

Let’s review some of the best news from last week.

– Natchez High School celebrated the graduation of 200 students, including several high school scholars. Congratulations to all the graduates, especially valedictorian Debra Whitley and salutatorian Jonathan Weir.

– The Natchez Festival of Music hosted several events Friday through Sunday and will pick back up this week to close out the great May of music.

– Toes were tapping at Historic Jefferson College Saturday for the annual Great Big Yam Old Time Music Gathering. Fiddlers from all around entertained.

– Angel Brooks, a sophomore at Natchez High, has countless awards for her photography under her belt already. Brooks hasn’t put down the camera yet, so we know great photos are to come. We love to see our young people excelling in and out of the classroom.

– Area resident Henry Watts will soon begin a term on the Veterans Home Purchase Board of Mississippi. It’s great to see locals working on the state level to make a difference for others. The board works to help veterans buy houses.

The remaining schools will close their doors in the coming week and the last of the graduates will toss those hats. Then we can all sit back and enjoy summer.
