Grammy wins have area ties

As any music lover probably knows by now, R&B sensation Beyonce won a record-tying five Grammys Sunday night for her solo debut album &uot;Dangerously in Love.&uot;

What music watchers might not know, however, is that those awards have a local connection &045;&045; Andreo Heard, producer of the album’s song &uot;Speechless.&uot;

Heard, a North Carolina native living in New York, is the husband of Natchez native Ann Grennell Heard and brother-in-law of Adams County supervisors President Darryl Grennell. Heard met his wife during college in Atlanta.

&uot;Speechless,&uot; it seems, is a good way to describe Heard’s reaction to hearing the album named a winner five times &045;&045; and hearing his name in Beyonce’s acceptance speech. The categories were tough, Heard said in a telephone interview, &uot;and I was shocked when we won.&uot;

Although Heard has been a producer for several years &045;&045; helping produce records for the likes of Michael Jackson, Will Smith and Lil’ Kim &045;&045; Sunday’s wins marked the first time an album he helped create won a Grammy.

Heard could not make it in person to the Grammys in Los Angeles. He’s stuck in New York doing work in the studio on a project for an established artist, although he can’t say who just yet.

And he’s already got his sights on his next project, for he will also help produce the next album of Beyonce’s group Destiny’s Child.
