NATCHEZ &045; The 23rd annual scholarship banquet of Miss-Lou chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame will be held at 7 p.m. today.

The chapter will award $9,250 in scholarships twith the first-place winner getting the highest amount with the second- and third-place winners and the remaining four to receive the same amount.

Those up for scholarships are David Barnes of Adams Christian, John Paul Kenda of Cathedral, Fred Hardaway of Ferriday, Adam Trevillion of Huntington, Anthony Strauder of Natchez High, Chase Brown of Trinity Episcopal and Jeffrey Anderson of Vidalia.

Dean Ronnie Nettles of Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Natchez and his staff selected the winners. The selections are according to academic performance, athletic achievement, extra-curricular/community activity and overall balance.

Junior high athletes to be honored are Matthew Guedon of Adams Christian, Jesse Morrison of Cathedral, Jeremy Kelly of Ferriday, Stan Hazlip of Huntington, Travis Isaac of Robert Lewis Middle, Jared McPhate of Trinity Episcopal and Jeremy Washington of Vidalia.

Louisiana-Monroe head coach Charlie Weatherbie will be the guest speaker. Weatherbie, a former head coach at Navy and Utah State, completed his first year at ULM last year after accepting the position last summer.

Others to be honored include John Mark Williams as Contributor to Amateur Football and Merriel McCelleis as Distinguished American.
