CENTRAL, La. &045; The Adams Christian Rebels battled powerhouse Central Private for 7 1/2 innings before CPS got a walk-off homer to lead off the seventh to take a 2-1 win Tuesday.

Adams Christian right-hander Douglas Davis battled Central Private’s starter before surrendering the homer at the end.

&uot;It was just a heck of a pitcher’s duel between Douglas and their guy,&uot; AC head coach Gill Morris said. &uot;One of the better ball games I’ve seen in a while. It was just a heck of a game. We played hard, and they’ve got a nice team. We played one of the top teams in the state for eight innings.&uot;

Davis surrendered an unearned run in the first as Central Private took the lead. AC then scored in the middle innings when it put a couple of runners on before Central Private made an error on a ground ball to score a run.

Then in the eighth Davis worked the count 0-2 on the leadoff batter before he homered.

&uot;We tried to go up and in, and we missed a little bit,&uot; Morris said. &uot;Two inches and he would have popped out.&uot;

CLINTON, La. &045; The Saints held a 5-2 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth before the Wildcats scored three in the fifth and four in the sixth.

The four in the sixth were unearned charged to Walt Ketchings.

Trinity led 5-2 after four as Ryan Rachal doubled in a run and Kyle Dunaway and Stevan Ridley each singled in a run.
