NATCHEZ — The Adams County Board of Supervisors advertised Friday its intention to enter into a $1 million loan agreement with the Mississippi Development Authority.

A legal advertisement published Friday states that the loan is for “freight improvements and/or loans to freight companies identified as: Genesis Energy.”

Supervisors President Darryl Grennell said the loan would be repaid by the company, and board attorney Scott Slover said the county is not at risk for the loan.

Natchez Inc. Executive Director Chandler Russ said that while the loan is linked with Genesis Energy in the advertisement, the money will be used for public infrastructure.

“The improvements are being put in place to serve a client, but it will be publicly-owned improvements,” Russ said.

Russ declined to specify what the company will be doing, saying the project is still being negotiated.

“Genesis will be a great corporate asset to our area, and that is really all that I can talk about until we finalize the details of our agreement,” he said.

Russ said the final details of the loan have not yet been worked out, but the county decided to advertise its intention of the loan amount so that when the agreement is finalized it can move on the project quickly.

“As we finalize our agreement, we didn’t want to have to wait for the public notice process to go through again before we could proceed,” Russ said.

The advertisement states that the board intends to formally authorize the loans on or after its June 4 meeting.
