BROOKHAVEN — Services for Robert McKinley Collins, 81, of Brookhaven, who died Thursday, May 10, 2012, will be at 3 p.m. today at Riverwood Family Funeral Service Chapel.

Burial will follow at Riverwood Memorial Park under the direction of Riverwood Family Funeral Service.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mr. Collins was born June 14, 1930, in Alabama, the son of Robert McKinley Collins Sr. and Lillie Mae Cast Collins.

He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service as Post Master of Gloster and was a member of First Baptist Church in Brookhaven. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He was also a deacon at Centreville Baptist Church, taught Sunday School and went on various mission trips. Mr. Collins played several seasons with Natchez Indians Professional Baseball.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Marcus Collins; two brothers, the Rev. Milford Collins and Charles Collins; and two sisters, Allene Collins Pool and Alice Drew Collins Hoss.

Survivors include his wife, Mary George Dalton Collins; one son, Robert McKinley III “Kent” and wife, Vicky; one daughter, Carolyn Stephens and husband, Marty; eight grandchildren, Jake Collins, Amanda Gardner, Hannah Collins, Erin Collins Walsh, Andrew Collins Walsh, Elena Walsh, Ashley Stephens and Clint Stephens; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Collins and a number of nieces and nephews.
