Rebels shine at All-Star

CLINTON &045; Adams Christian slugger Glenn Williams got the South MVP award as he and his teammates took a 15-12 win over the North in the annual MPSA Class AAA All-Star Game Saturday at Mississippi College.
Williams threw one inning of relief and got the win while collecting two hits, driving in two runs, scoring two runs and stealing four bases. Rebel teammates Joseph Dunlap and Douglas Davis also provided key contributions as the South broke away from a 10-10 tie after seven for the win.
The North fought back from a 9-2 deficit to tie the game up at 10 heading into the top of the eighth before the South got five more runs to blow open the high-scoring contest. In the eighth Ryan Cobb led off with a double and scored on a Drew Maddox double for an 11-10 lead.
Hunter Owen of Jackson Prep walked, and both runners moved up on a passed ball. Brandon Billings of Central Private singled in Maddox and Owen before a single from Jackson Prep’s JoJo Tann put runners at the corners with with one out.
Williams then singled in both runs for the 15-10 lead.
The North rallied in the ninth with two runs and had runners at first and second with two outs until Tyler Winford of Jackson Academy singled up the middle. Williams threw from center field to Dunlap at the plate to nail Win Cadenhead for the final out of the game.
Williams entered in the seventh inning after the North had scored four runs and had runners on second and third and no outs. The left-hander got a strikeout swinging, a strikeout looking and an infield flyout to get out of the jam.
The South had a 6-2 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth, and Davis entered and threw a scoreless inning of relief. The Meridian Community College signee struck out the side with two looking by throwing just 10 pitches.
Dunlap finished the game with two hits, including a double, and two runs scored. He caught the first five and last two innings.
Chad Crosswhite of MRA was the North MVP.
South 18, North 4 (A-AA)
The South jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings and eventually led 12-3 after seven innings thanks in part to nine North errors in the contest.
Trinity Episcopal standout Walt Ketchings played about half of the game in center field, finishing with one hit in three at-bats. He grounded out his first time up, singled to drive in a run the second at-bat and was hit by a pitch his trip up.
Ketchings also scored two runs.
Walt played half game in CF, batted three times 1-3, 1B to drive in a run second AB and HP third AB, scored two runs.
