NATCHEZ — Longtime businessman Bernie Pyron has resigned from the Natchez Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees.

Pyron said Thursday he delivered his resignation letter to the Adams County Board of Supervisors office Wednesday. Copies of the letter were made for each supervisor, and placed in their respective mailboxes.

Pyron, whose three-year term expires May 27, will continue to serve on the hospital board until the supervisors appoint a replacement.

“I’ve been there six years, and I’ve tried to do the very best I could for the citizens of Adams County,” said Pyron, who was first appointed to the hospital board in 2004. “I’ve served with a good many people who have come and gone, and it’s been really enlightening.”

Pyron, who is semi-retired, said serving on the hospital board has curtailed his traveling plans. Being free from the responsibilities of the hospital board, Pyron said, will allow more leisure time.

Hospital Board Chairman Dan Bland said Pyron’s leisure time is well deserved.

“Bernie will be missed,” Bland said. “He was an advocate for the taxpayers of this community, and I believe he truly loves the hospital.”

Pyron, who was present at NRMC’s ribbon cutting ceremony 50 years ago, said throughout his tenure on the hospital board, the people of Adams County have always been his first priority.

Pyron said whomever replaces him should value public opinion, and be dedicated to the task at hand.

“The board needs an honest and truthful person who will be interested in the people of Adams County,” Pyron said. “The people of Adams County own every brick out there.

“Whoever (the supervisors) appoint need to be unbiased.”

Board of Supervisors President Darryl Grennell received Pyron’s resignation letter Thursday afternoon, and said the supervisors will likely discuss a new appointment during their regular meeting Tuesday.

“I will go ahead and give the board a charge to begin to make nominations to replace (Pyron) and accept his letter of resignation,” Grennell said.

“On behalf of the board, we’re appreciative for his years of service to the hospital board.”
