NATCHEZ &045; Winning the race that garnered arguably less attention than the mayor’s race Tuesday night, Bob Pollard was simply &uot;glad to be here&uot; as he celebrated his new city post.
Pollard, a Republican, beat Democrat D.D. Smith for the Ward 3 alderman post, being vacated by Sue Stedman since she ran for mayor.
Pollard garnered 54.48 percent of the vote, or 815 votes, to Smith’s 45.32 percent, or 678.
&uot;I think Ward 3 will not be disappointed with its choice,&uot; said Pollard, who is looking forward to being sworn into office.
&uot;As far as I’m concerned, I’m working right now,&uot; he said. &uot;I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work.&uot;
Pollard said he will use one of the most important skills he has learned in business &045; listening &045; as he assumes his new post.
&uot;I’m going to listen to what the aldermen and department heads have to say,&uot; he said.
Pollard said he knows two of the most important issues the city will have to tackle soon are jobs and street repair.
