NATCHEZ &045;&045; Fifty-four stars are ready for their live concert.

Children, preschoolers through eighth-graders, have spent every morning this week working with Alcorn State University Choral Director Tony Fields to perfect the skills they will debut tonight.

The children will complete the final day of the first-ever Tony Fields Music Camp at Zion Chapel A.M.E. today.

Their live concert for parents and visitors will begin at 6 p.m. at the church.

Fields, who started the camp with his wife, said the week has run smoothly.

&uot;It’s been going wonderfully,&uot; Fields said. &uot;They catch on so fast and are so eager.&uot;

Each day the children spend the bulk of the day learning gospel songs with Fields. Other activities include devotion, arts and crafts and snacks.

&uot;I want to be a singer,&uot; 11-year-old Kristin Hogans said. &uot;I like Mr. Fields, and singing is my favorite part.&uot;

Chad White, 10, said his favorite song was &uot;We Lift Your Name on High,&uot; but he’d learned more than just songs at the camp.

&uot;I learned how to cooperate with others,&uot; White said. &uot;I’ll come back next year.&uot;

Fields said he plans to make the camp an annual event.

&uot;We (Fields and his wife) are music teachers,&uot; Fields said. &uot;Here was something that has never been done here.

&uot;They have learned new songs, and they can take them back to their churches.&uot;

The camp ran each day this week from 8 to 11:30 a.m. The children who attended were from many different churches and parts of Adams County.

The camp was also open to children visiting from out-of-town.
