WOODVILLE &045;&045; A man accused of invading the home of an elderly Centreville couple and robbing them of their car at gunpoint last November was sentenced as a habitual felon to 25 years in prison this week in Wilkinson County Circuit Court.
Mariah Ernell Weatherspoon, 26, of 3657 Nona Lane in Gloster, will serve the sentence without the benefit of &uot;good time&uot; or parole, Sixth Circuit Assistant District Attorney Walt Brown said.
&uot; He’ll have to do that time day for day,&uot; Brown said.
Weatherspoon, who already had two prior felony convictions, was out on bond.
He was awaiting trial on a Sept. 3 burglary charge in Centreville when he committed the November crime, Brown said.
In connection with the November charges, Weatherspoon was allowed to enter a guilty plea to burglary of a dwelling house as a habitual criminal.
He was also allowed to plead guilty to armed robbery as a non-habitual criminal, Brown said.
Sixth Circuit Court Judge Lillie Blackmon Sanders sentenced Weatherspoon to concurrent terms of 25 years on the burglary charge and 10 years on the armed robbery charge, Brown said.
In view of the Wilkinson County sentence, an additional charge of arson against Weatherspoon in Amite County was retired to the inactive files, according to Amite County Circuit Court records.
Weatherspoon was accused of burning the stolen car in Amite County.
The Sept. 3 burglary charge against Weatherspoon was also retired, Brown said.
Weatherspoon had prior convictions for burglary of a storehouse and motor vehicle theft in connection with crimes he committed in 2001, according to records in Wilkinson County Circuit Court.
