VIDALIA, La. &045; This time it wasn’t so one-sided.
There was plenty of drama when East Central and Northeast hooked up in the second game of the Dixie Majors 15- and 16-year-old District 5 tournament, and East Central rallied in the eighth to break the 5-5 tie for the 6-5 win for its first win of the tournament.
East Central broke the tie in the first extra frame when Shayne Knapp reached base on a fielder’s choice, went to second on a Matt Shively walk and came around to score when Trey Corbett lined one up the middle.
Knapp held up once he hit third but took off once the throw from center appeared as if it would sail over the catcher’s head. Knapp broke for the plate and beat the tag to score the winning run and end the game.
East Central trailed 5-1 in the contest but tacked on two in the sixth and two more in the seventh to tie it up. Trailing 5-3 heading into its last at-bat, East Central put two on the board with the first one coming on Matt Marchbanks scored from second when Northeast misplayed a ground ball off the bat of Ples Arthur.
C.J. Wright grounded out to shortstop for the second out to move Arthur to third, and Arthur scored on a wild pitch from Northeast reliever Justin Shelton to tie it up.
Gary Evans started for East Central before getting pulled in the fifth when Northeast put up four runs &045; all unearned. Knapp came in and got out of the inning and threw solid the rest of the way with no hits allowed until the eighth inning when Northeast put runners on and left them stranded.
Northeast will play Franklin at 7 p.m. today.
