NATCHEZ &045;&045; Last year Chad Huber and Chris Kelley teamed with Kurt Russ and Adrian Stallone

to win the Buick Scramble Local Qualifier and advance to the Sectional Qualifier.

This year, Huber and Kelley teamed with Tom Graning and Bryan Callaway to shoot a blistering 13-under-par 59 Saturday afternoon to win this year’s Local Qualifier at Beau Pr/ Country Club.

They advanced to sectionals, which will also take place at Beau Pr/ on Aug. 10.

&uot;At the sectional, you get the pro to play with you,&uot; Kelley said. &uot;About 15-under is the winning score. The team from Beau Pr/ has never won sectional.&uot;

But the way the Kelley-Huber-Graning-Callaway team played Saturday, that may very well change.

Huber, Kelley, Graning and Callaway had 11 birdies, including birdies on the final five holes, and an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole which really jump-started their round.

But the last four holes belonged to Graning, specifically his short game.

On No. 15, Graning hit his second shot from about 70 yards out to just a couple of inches from the hole. A tap-in birdie put them at 10-under-par.

Then on No. 16, after all four players failed to reach the green on their tee shots, Graning made an unbelievable chip from 35 feet away for birdie-2 and his teammates celebrated as if they won the Ryder Cup for the United States.

On No. 17, after a 317-yard drive into the middle of the fairway by Kelley, Graning hit his second shot from 94 yards out to just 12 inches from the hole. A birdie putt put them at 12-under going to the par-5 18th hole.

&uot;That’s our short-game extraordinaire, Tom Graning Ballesteros,&uot; Huber said, also referring to longtime pro golfer Seve Ballesteros. &uot;Three holes in a row.&uot;

After Huber hit two long shots, the second of which just missed to the left of the green, Graning hit his third shot to just six feet from the hole and Callaway made the putt for to get them to 13-under 59.

&uot;Everybody took part,&uot; Graning said. &uot;All three of them had the long game. Everybody made shots. Everybody made putts.&uot;

&uot;We had a couple of lulls, but we had some good shots to get out of them,&uot; Huber said. &uot;We eagled No. 8. We had two quality shots and a 30-foot bomb by Callaway for eagle. We then birdied No. 9 and that gave us the momentum at the turn.&uot;

Still, they had to wait and see what a couple of teams they felt could have forced a playoff with them would do.

The team of Russ, Adrian Sandel, Tommy Geoghegan and Blaine Mire needed an eagle on 18 to force a playoff. Instead, they had to settle for a disappointing par and finished second with an 11-under 61. The team of Robin Punches, Alan Coley, Bill Salters and Billy Risher had the clubhouse lead for quite a while after shooting a 9-under 63, which was good enough for third place.

Perhaps the team that had the most interesting round and deserved better fate was the team of Sim Mosby, Joel Lessley, Lee Falkenheiner and Lee Huckaby, which shot a 64 to finish tied for fourth, yet ended up having to settle for pars on all four of the par-5s &045;&045; Nos. 5, 8, 10 and 18.
