NATCHEZ — The electricity is on and the roads are clear in the Miss-Lou two days after six inches of snow fell.

Though some of the snow melted Friday, officials were concerned that freezing temperatures overnight would create black ice and more trouble on roadways.

For the most part, that didn’t happen, Adams County Emergency Management Director Stan Owens said.

“Thank goodness people traveled with due regard,” he said.

Thursday night’s snowfall left approximately 300 Entergy customers without service Friday morning, but power was restored to everyone by 5 p.m. Friday, Entergy Customer Service Specialist Stephen Caruthers said.

“We got them on and had a good evening,” he said. “We didn’t have any trouble (Friday) night.”

Temperatures warmed into the 40s Saturday, melting away most of the white stuff that remained.

And though the worst is gone, Owens said it doesn’t hurt to be cautious for a few more days.

A few bridges in the U.S. 61 North area were icing, but were grated by the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

Other rural roads in shady areas may retain moisture that could re-freeze, Owen said.

“People still need to be cautious out there, though,” he said. “There might be an ice patch or two left out there.”

Today’s predicted high is 57, according to the National Weather Service, with a chance of rain.

Temperatures in the coming week are predicted to range from 26 Monday night to 53 Wednesday.
