Want baseball fields? Tell Vidalia aldermen

Vidalia residents have a unique opportunity tonight to help shape the town’s future &045; at least, in this case, in terms of recreation and quality of life.
Vidalia, whose motto is &uot;on the move,&uot; is planning a multi-million dollar recreation facility with new baseball and softball fields, soccer fields, even a volleyball court and space for horseshoes.
And at a public hearing tonight during the board of aldermen meeting, residents are invited to share their opinions &045; on what they want to see in the facility, how the town should pay for it, and, perhaps most important, whether they want it at all.
We have a feeling the answer to that last question is yes.
Mayor Hyram Copeland said last week he has heard almost completely positive comments about the proposal, even though it could mean a slight tax increase to help pay for it.
The most important thing, though, is that Vidalia residents have a say in what happens. And if they want the project to move forward, they have a chance to say so tonight &045; and to say what they want to be in the park.
The recreation facility has the potential to be many things for Vidalia &045; a boost in quality of life, a place for children, even a boon to the economy if tournaments come to town.
We hope everyone will take advantage of the 6 p.m. meeting tonight to give their opinions.
