NATCHEZ — Metro Narcotics agents expecting to conduct a drug search Wednesday night found themselves in the midst of a chase and a second arrest.
Agents went to Cedar Hurst Apartments at approximately 9 p.m. with a search warrant for the apartment of Derrick Lamont Coleman, 33, an Adams County Sheriff’s Office press release said.
As they approached the complex, they found Coleman in his vehicle in the parking lot.
Coleman drove off, though, and agents followed the man to St. Catherine Street, where he exited his vehicle and ran on foot.
While some agents chased Coleman, others searched apartment 502 and reportedly discovered 11 ounces of marijuana, 1.4 grams of crack cocaine and approximately 90 milliliters of Promethazine. They arrested Natalie Nicole Letcher, 35, who lives in the apartment with Coleman, the press release says.
Agents also apprehended Coleman and arrested him.
Coleman was arrested on two counts of sale of marijuana within 1,500 feet of a church, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a church, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a church, possession of Promethazine intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a church, reckless driving and fleeing or eluding a law enforcement officer.
Letcher was also arrested on acting in concert of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a church, acting in concert of possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a church and acting in concert of possession of Promethazine intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a church.
“We hope that these arrests will help make Cedar Hurst a safer community for its residents,” Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said.
