VIDALIA — Adams County Sheriff’s Office detention officer Brandon Lee Gardner was arrested at 2:50 a.m. today after allegedly wrecking his vehicle in Natchez and fleeing from police into Vidalia.
Gardner, 31, 115 S. Commerce St., is charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense; reckless operation; expired tag; criminal damage to property; aggravated flight from an officer and battery of an officer.
A Natchez Police Department report says an officer was dispatched to John R. Junkin Drive near South China Restaurant in response to a call about a white Chevrolet Silverado leaving the scene of an accident.
Gardner reportedly struck a light pole in the median, knocking it over and shattering the light.
The police report says the officer was notified, while he was on John R. Junkin Drive, that Vidalia police were in pursuit of a vehicle. VPD was successful in stopping Gardner.
Gardner’s bond was set at $11,205, and he was transferred to the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office where he is being held.
Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said Gardner voluntarily resigned earlier today.
