For some students at Frazier Primary School, Friday was a grand day indeed.
While disappointment showed in the eyes of those Frazier Primary students whose grandparents weren’t there for the annual Grandparents Day, for the lucky ones Friday was special. &uot;She asked me to come, so I’m here,&uot; said Andrew Rounds Jr., grandfather of Jasmine Brown.
&uot;He’s here because he loves me,&uot; Brown said.
Grandparents who visited the school on the national day honoring them were able to spend a few minutes in the classroom with their grandchildren.
&uot;It’s Grandparents Day,&uot; said Ernesha Chatman as her grandfather watched her work. &uot;He likes to buy me stuff, take me over the river and take me to his place.&uot;
Chatman’s grandfather James Williams also said all it took was an invitation to get him to the school.
&uot;Me and her are real tight,&uot; Williams said. &uot;I take her everywhere with me.&uot;
Grandparents spent time in the lunchroom, on the playground and in the classrooms. Some teachers incorporated the visitors into their lesson plans.
Essence Smoot, 6, worked with her grandmother, Brenda Howard, to fill out a questionnaire about Howard.
&uot;She’s the first grandchild,&uot; Howard said. &uot;So I was going to be here for her.&uot;
Minnie Bell said the same as her granddaughter Faith Davis led her to the office to checkout.
&uot;They are very important to me,&uot; Bell said. &uot;She said to come, so I had to come.&uot;
Alberta and James Green not only visited Frazier Primary but also went to West Primary where they had another grandchild.
&uot;We come mostly every year,&uot; James Green said. &uot;We just sit and talk with them.&uot;
&uot;They were glad to see us,&uot; Alberta Green said of her grandchild and great-grandchild at Frazier.
