BILOXI — In a season of ups and downs, the Natchez High Bulldogs had their season end with a thud.

The Bulldogs dropped a 64-46 decision to the Biloxi Indians in the South State opening round.

Natchez never could get its offense on track in the game, as the Bulldogs never scored more than 13 points in any quarter.

However, the Bulldog defense made up for their lack of scoring output in the first half, as they held Biloxi to just 27 first-half points.

Biloxi led 27-20 at halftime.

However, the Indians came out with firepower in the third quarter, as they outscored Natchez 19-13 to take a 46-33 lead into the fourth quarter.

Natchez tried to come back in the final eight minutes, but Biloxi finished the game by outscoring the Bulldogs 18-13 in the final quarter.

Natchez was led by Jeremy McMorris with 13 points while Joel Davis and Brandon Holden both scored nine.

Jeremiah Dunnings led Biloxi with 27 points while Guy Payne scored 11.

Class 3A South State opening round

Jefferson County 76, Carthage 55

FAYETTE — Jefferson County continued its fine play of late with a 21-point victory over Carthage in the South State tournament opening round.

The Tigers took a 19-10 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.

Jefferson County led 43-24 at halftime and cruised to victory in the second half.

The Tigers were led by the duo of Davian Noble and Terry Tenner, who combined for 53 of Jefferson County’s 76 points.

Noble had 29 points while Tenner scored 24.

Raheem Gray led Carthage with 28 points.

Jefferson County improved to 16-9 on the season and will take on Heidelberg in the first round of the South State tournament on Friday.

The tournament will take place at Choctaw Central High School in Philadelphia.
