Water out for two hours in Ferriday

FERRIDAY — Residents of Woodland Avenue found themselves without water for two hours Thursday while Town of Ferriday employees worked to fix a fire hydrant that was hit last week.
And even though the water was only turned off for two hours, the town is under precautionary boil water advisory until further notice.
Mayor Glen McGlothin said the hydrant took so long to fix because of the precautions taken when digging near electrical lines.
“Anytime you dig near an electrical line, the companies have to come out and mark their lines and make sure you don’t clip their lines,” McGlothin said. “The water is back on, but anytime we shut the water off, we go on a boil alert.
“With the water problems we’ve had, we take all the precautions in Ferriday.”
The precautionary boil water advisory is standard procedure for any time a water system loses pressure.
Water samples must be tested and proven safe for consumption before the ban can be lifted.
McGlothin said the ban would go until at least Monday, since the samples won’t be tested all weekend.
