MCCOMB &045; Centreville’s perfect season was ruined by a 27-26 loss to Parklane in a game that came down to a strange and exciting finish.

Centreville took a 24-13 lead midway through the third quarter, but Parklane scored two unanswered touchdowns to take a 27-24 lead. With seconds remaining, the outcome of the game was still in doubt. Parklane’s Ben Wall took a snap with just three seconds remaining on the clock and rather than punt the ball away opted to take an intentional safety, running the ball out of the back of the end zone.

The safety made Parklane’s lead just a single point, but prevented the Tigers from having a chance to recover a potential fumble for a game-winning touchdown and led to the Pioneer victory.

Brookhaven 47, WCCA 13

WOODVILLE &045; Brookhaven Academy continued its march to the playoffs Friday, disposing of Wilkinson County Christian Academy.

The Cougars jumped out to a 23-0 lead before the Rams could even react. When WCCA did fight back with a 61-yard touchdown run from Ruston Cato, it was too little, too late.

Brookhaven quarterback Stewart Sessums had two touchdown passes and a touchdown run in the game as the Cougar first-string offense stayed in for the entire contest. Sessums was too fast for an overmatched Rams defense that couldn’t pin the shifty quarterback down.

Porter’s Chapel 27, Tensas 20

ST. JOSEPH &045; Porter’s Chapel beat Tensas 27-20 in a matchup of teams that came into the game with identical 3-1 records. The Eagles scored all 27 of their points before the Chiefs could make a mark on the scoreboard, but when Tensas came roaring back it was all Porter’s Chapel could do to hold on for the victory.

The Chiefs scored 20 unanswered points in the third and fourth quarters and narrowed their deficit to just seven points with a Will Ratcliff touchdown run with 2:40 remaining in the game. But the Eagles managed to run down the clock and hold on for the win, moving their record to 4-1 on the season.
