The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is investigating three “persons of interest” in a Wednesday night double homicide in the Fenwick area. No arrests have been made.
The deceased are 19-year-old Stephanie Anderson and 50-year-old Carl Williams of Roxie.
Another person, a 16-year-old girl, who lived at the East Street residence, was also injured and is hospitalized.
One person of interest, a Franklin County resident, may have known Williams, Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said.
Adams County Coroner James Lee responded to 5 East St. at approximately 1 a.m. The sheriff’s office received the call at approximately 11:45 p.m.
Two men, reportedly wearing masks, entered the house just before 11:45 p.m. Wednesday in an apparent robbery, Mayfield said. Neighbors reported hearing three gunshots outside, and authorities confirmed additional shots were fired inside.
“Whoever killed those people just didn’t have any regard for human life at all,” Lee said. “I can’t even put (the scene) into words. It was brutal.”
Both victims most likely died instantly from their gunshot wounds, Lee said. Anderson was shot in the chest and found in a back bedroom; Wilson was shot in the neck and found in the living room.
Investigators believe a dispute over a financial settlement might have led to the incident. A total of seven people were at the house at the time of incident.
