CAMPTI, La. &045; Lakeview’s defense had no answer for Block’s trio of running backs, Johnny Lee, Michael Griffin and A.J. Sharp as each of them ran for more than 100 yards in as Class 1A’s 10th-ranked Bears defeated the Gators 41-14 Friday night.

Lee led the way with 164 yards and scored four straight touchdowns for Block (5-2) after Lakeview had cut their lead to 7-6 at the 9:25 mark of the first quarter. His 4-yard touchdown run nearly midway through the quarter helped the Bears take a 14-6 lead, but it was his 56-yard touchdown run late in that same quarter that pretty much put the game away. He also scored on runs of 1 and 10 yards.

Griffin had 149 yards and scored the game’s first touchdown on a 26-yard run with 10:54 to go in the opening quarter. Sharp had 112 yards rushing and scored on a 44-yard run late in the third quarter.

Lakeview’s Bates (no first name given) scored the Gators’ only two touchdowns, first on a 32-yard run in the first quarter and then on a 20-yard run late in the game.

Block finished with 429 total rushing yards and 468 yards of total offense, while its defense held the Gators to just 192 total yards of offense.

Vidalia 20, McCall 16

TALLULAH, La. &045; Vidalia senior tailback Leroy Butler had probably his best game of the season as he rushed for over 200 yards and two touchdowns and a two-point conversion as the Vikings held on to defeat the Dragons in a key District 4-2A matchup for both teams Friday night.

Even though the Vikings had a big advantage against the Dragons in rushing yards (213 to 79), total yards (267 to 144), and first downs (18 to 9), the Dragons would not go away at all.

Brett Hinson scored on a 1-yard run, and Butler’s two-point conversion run in the first quarter gave Vidalia (4-3, 2-0) an 8-0 lead. Butler then scored on a 5-yard run for a 14-0 Vikings lead.

But McCall (4-3, 0-1) answered in the second quarter as Cody Atkins threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Quinton Levi and Atkins’ two-point conversion run cut Vidalia’s lead to 14-8.

However, the Vikings answered as Butler scored on a 9-yard run for a 20-8 lead in the third quarter. The Dragons tried to rally as Jeremy Fountain threw a 34-yard scoring pass to Atkins and Calvin Hardy’s two-point conversion run made it a 20-16 score.

Neither team was able to score in the fourth quarter, and the Vikings held on for a big win that kept them undefeated in district.

Rayville 19, Ferriday 0

RAYVILLE, La. &045; The Hornets (7-0), the No. 2 in Class 2A, may not have played their best game Friday night, but it was more than enough to defeat the struggling Trojans (2-5). No statistics were available.
