FERRIDAY, La. &045; &uot;No clue is insignificant&uot; as law enforcement authorities work to find the suspect in a Monday night shooting at a Ferriday restaurant.
Ferriday Police Chief Robert Davis said he urges residents to give police any information they have on the incident.
A manager of the China Wok, located at the intersection of E.E. Wallace Boulevard and Kentucky Avenue, was shot multiple times during an attempted robbery Monday night.
A witness said the gunman, wearing a dark mask, loosely fitting black or blue sweater and blue genes, entered the newly opened restaurant through the south door around 10 p.m. as employees were preparing to close, Davis said.
The gunman, holding what appeared to be a .22 caliber handgun, approached Liang Fung Foo, 37, who was sitting at a table, and demanded he empty his wallet, Davis said.
At the time the gunman entered, there were eight employees present. They began to take cover as the gunman approached the victim.
Davis said there was an apparent struggle resulting in nine shots fired, seven of them hitting Foo.
Witnesses said Foo was shot several times in the front and at least twice more in the back as he turned to escape his attacker.
Ferriday police said an employee ran out of the store during the attack to a nearby gas station and called 9-11.
The gunman then escaped the store and apparently fled on foot, reports said. It is believed no money was taken in the incident.
Foo was transported by ambulance to Riverland Medical Center and then transferred to St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, La., where he was said to be in critical but stable condition Tuesday night.
The Ferriday Police Department is seeking the assistance of the public in identifying and locating the gunman.
Working with Crime Stoppers in Natchez, a $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. Anyone with information may call 1-601-445-5000 or toll free 1-888-442-5001.
The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6-ft. tall and 180 lbs. with a medium build. He is said to be in his early 20s and has a light complexion.
&uot;If there was anyone in the area Monday night who happened to see anything suspicious, please give Crime Stoppers a call,&uot; Davis said. &uot;No clue is insignificant.&uot;
