MEADVILLE &045; Sometimes it just takes a quarter to get warmed up.

The Franklin County Bulldogs sleepwalked through the first quarter of their game against Wilkinson County before getting things together to take a 54-43 win.

It looked like the Wilkinson County boys might run away with the victory in the first quarter. The Wildcats took a 14-2 lead on Franklin County, who seemingly didn’t know what was going on.

Then the Bulldogs woke up, going on a 15-3 run to tie the game at 17. The teams fought back and forth in the second quarter and went into halftime tied at 26.

In the third quarter, the teams again struggled back and forth, with the Bulldogs taking a 39-37 lead into the final quarter, courtesy of Jasper O’Quinn’s basket.

Franklin County busted the game wide open in the fourth, opening with a 9-4 run and scoring the final six points of the contest.

Wesley Brown led the Bulldogs with 14 points while Deandre Cameron had 13. Bryant Dent had 12 points to lead Wilkinson.

Loyd Star 75, Cathedral 34

NATCHEZ &045; Cathedral was blown off the court by Loyd Star, falling 75-34 in a blowout.

The Hornets led 40-15 at halftime. Cathedral’s Matt Goss, the Green Wave’s best player this season, was held scoreless in the game.

Vidalia 54,

Franklin Parish 50

WINNSBORO, La. &045; Vidalia head coach Robert Sanders hopes this will not be a recurring theme for his Vidalia Vikings for the rest of the season &045; start slow, jump out to a big lead and then hold on in the fourth quarter.

Instead, he would probably like to see the Vikings start strong and finish that way after they nearly blew a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter yet were able to come away with a 54-50 win over the Franklin Parish Patriots Tuesday night.

Ramon Harris led Vidalia (6-3) with a game-high 17 points and Jeremy Riggs had 10 points. The Vikings trailed 10-6 at the end of the first quarter, but they answered in a big way by outscoring the Patriots by a combined 29-14 over the next two quarters to take what seemed to be a commanding 35-24 lead.

But Franklin Parish, led by Leroy Smith, who had 12 points, and Ken Cudit, who had 11, rallied in the fourth quarter to make the game quite interesting. The Patriots scored 26 points in the fourth quarter, but it would not be quite enough.

Centreville 56, Oak Forest 50

AMITE, La. &045; The Tigers opened up MPSA District 4-AA with a hard-fought win on the road over the Yellow Jackets behind 22 points by Brandon Patton and 12 by Parker Berry.

Centerville took a 15-10 lead over Oak Forest (2-2, 0-2) after one quarter of play and used an 18-15 advantage in the third quarter to end any hopes of a Yellow Jackets rally. Lathan Campo led Oak Forest with 21 points.

WCCA 46, Lamar Christian 32

PURVIS &045; Greg Garner scored 14 points and Eli Ashley had 12 as the Rams (3-7, 3-0) outscored the Lions over the second and third quarters to pull away for the win in an MPSA District 6-A game.

St. Frederick 47, Ferriday 28

MONROE, La. &045; Ferriday’s Trojans suffered their first loss on the season Tuesday night to end their seven-game winning streak to open the season.

St. Fred’s led 10-7 after the first quarter and 19-11 at halftime. The Trojans never could get into an offensive rhythm, scoring just 18 points in the second half.

St. Fred’s top scorers were Stribling and Belton with 10 apiece. LaDerrick Metcalf and Dominique Myles led Ferriday with six points apiece.
