NATCHEZ &045; The 2004-2005 season did not get off to a good start for Natchez High’s soccer teams as Lady Bulldogs lost a tough game to the North Pike Lady Jaguars 1-0 in the final minutes of the game and the Bulldogs gave up two goals in the second half and lost to the Jaguars 3-0 Friday night.

In the girls game, head coach Dennis Hogue and assistant coach Lena Yarbrough were discussing what five players to have ready for overtime with the score at 0-0 and the game apparently headed in that direction.

That was until there was less than two minutes remaining in regulation.

&uot;I don’t know how they scored,&uot; Hogue said. &uot;I was over at the concession stand. I was on my way back to the sideline and I saw their players screaming. They were all packed in the box. Probably deflected off someone.&uot;

Goalkeeper Tracy Davis showed her tenacity after being hit in the hand and having to stay out of the game for a good five minutes.

&uot;She played a tremendous game,&uot; Hogue said. &uot;We had a few breakaways. Sarah Weaver and Jadtrl Heard had shots on goal, but their keeper had to make some good saves. She’s a senior and she’s big.&uot;

In the boys game, North Pike took a 1-0 lead when a shot on goal hit one player on the foot, then went off three other players, the last being a Jaguar player, in what Hogue said was about two or three seconds.

The second goal occurred after Natchez was called for a handball in the box. North Pike scored on the ensuing penalty kick for a 2-0 lead. The third and final goal the Jaguars scored was on a corner kick.

&uot;No one knew it went in,&uot; Hogue said. &uot;Everyone was looking for it. The ball slid in the side. There were no clean goals. From a coaching standpoint, I couldn’t be more pleased.&uot;
