FAYETTE — Services for James Turner, 64, of New Orleans, formerly of Fayette, who died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, in New Orleans, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Fayette with the Rev. Percy Turner officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Craft Funeral Home in McComb.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Mr. Turner was born March 13, 1948, in Fayette, the son of Warren and Rosie Turner. He was a 1969 graduate of Lidell High School. After graduation, James moved to New Orleans and became a lifelong member of Louisa Street Church of Christ. He was employed by Landis Construction Company and worked there for more than 15 years prior to being employed by McDonnell Group LLF. He remained a faithful and committed employee to the McDonnell Group for six years until he lost his battle with cancer.
In 1971, James married the late Mary Johnson Turner and to this union they were blessed with three children, the late Yolanda Turner, Sabrina Turner and Anthony.
On April 8, 2006, James entered into holy matrimony with Leonteen Brister Mark. They enjoyed six beautiful, loving and affectionate years until God called him to his heavenly home.
James was a devoted and loving husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother, relative and friend. He dearly loved sharing holiday celebrations and all family gatherings.
Survivors include his devoted wife; one daughter, Sabrina Turner Horn and husband, Gary; one son, Anthony Turner; one granddaughter, Alyssia Turner; three stepchildren, Troylynn Mark White and husband, Shakor, Nicola Mark and Windy Mark, all of New Orleans; one godchild, Maron Smith; three sisters, Rosie Turner, Lou Etta Jackson and husband, Stonewall, and Shirley Oliver and husband, James, all of Fayette; seven brothers, Will T. Turner and wife, Florence, Robert Turner and wife, Willye Jean, and Percy Turner and wife, Hilda, all of Fayette, Earnest Turner and wife, Irene, of Dallas, William Turner, Aaron Turner and wife, Linda, and Nathan Turner and wife, Jackie, all of New Orleans; three sisters-in-law, Lelamae Smith and husband, Herbert, Laverne Hughes and husband, Johnny, of Tylertown and Senamae Lewis and husband, Hug P, of Baton Rouge; one brother-in-law, Theodore Brister of Tylertown; two aunts, Clara Reed of Fayette and Mildred Graves of New Orleans; two uncles, John Carradine of Fayette and David Carradine and wife, Vincie Lee, of Hammond, La.; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
