Trinity boys log another 4-AA win; Natchez falters to team out of Dallas

NATCHEZ &045; With the exception of the second quarter, Friday night’s MPSA District 4-AA matchup between the Oak Forest Yellow Jackets and the Trinity Episcopal Saints at Clyde Adams Arena was very close.

It was that second quarter that Trinity put some distance between itself and Oak Forest with a 12-3 advantage as the Saints went on to defeat the Yellow Jackets 53-36 despite Gervoni Ware being held to six points.

With the win Trinity (9-3) overall remained tied with No. 1 Brookhaven Academy atop the district standings at 3-0. Brookhaven hosted Centreville Friday night.

Stevan Ridley led Trinity with a game-high 18 points. Lathan Campo led Oak Forest with 12 points.

Trinity’s big second quarter turned a three-point lead into a 12-point cushion at halftime and the Saints were never in any danger of losing their double-digit lead the rest of the way.

Sicily Island 46, Vidalia 42

FERRIDAY, La. &045; Two things really hurt the Vikings in this game at the Ferriday Invitational Tournament &045; Ken Johnson, one of the Vikings’ leading scorers, was held to six points and Sicily Island got hot in the fourth quarter to rally from a four-point deficit to win by four.

The lead kept going back and forth several times between the two teams, with Sicily Island taking a one-point lead at halftime and Vidalia (7-6) taking a four-point lead into the fourth quarter.

But it was Sicily Island which got going in the fourth quarters as the Tigers outscored the Vikings 15-7 to pull out a stunning upset win.

Ceddrick Finister led Sicily Island with a game-high 21 points. Ramon Harris led Vidalia with 10 points.

Ferriday 67, Block 41

FERRIDAY, La. &045; Four Ferriday players scored in double figures, led by Dominique Myles with 16 points and Eric Crump with 13 as the Trojans dominated the second and third quarters to cruise to the 26-point win at the Ferriday Invitational Tournament.

Ferriday led just 13-10 at the end of the first quarter, but an 18-11 advantage in the second quarter and a 23-8 edge in the third quarter put this game completely out of reach.

Devon Banks led Block with 15 points and Walter Hankston had 11.

S. Oak Cliff 80, Natchez 54

LAKE CHARLES, La. &045; South Oak Cliff of Dallas, Texas had its hands full with the Bulldogs for one half in a winner’s bracket game at the Cameron State Bank Invitational Tournament at Barbe High School, but a big third quarter would be the difference.

Natchez trailed by just three points, 34-31, at halftime, but South Oak Cliff went on a tear in the third quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs (7-3) 22-7 to increase its lead to 18 going into the fourth quarter.

Jeremy Price led South Oak Cliff with a game-high 24 points. Jeremy Houston led Natchez with 14 points.

Natchez continues tournament play when the Bulldogs play Central at 2 p.m. today.
