NATCHEZ &045; The Rebels are praying for a win at this point.
Against Riverfield, those prayers almost came true.
Adams Christian (9-8, 0-5) has yet to win a district game, but the Rebels had their chances in a 56-42 loss to Riverfield (12-9, 4-1).
Trailing 44-49 with 1:30 remaining in the game, the Rebels missed four consecutive shots, robbing themselves of a chance to win. All four shots were from close range, two of them layups.
&uot;We need to win a district game,&uot; AC head coach Kyle Smith said. &uot;We’re close in every one. We just need a win.&uot;
The Rebels had fought their way back into the game after trailing for nearly the entire game. With 17 seconds left in the third quarter, Dustin Case’s layup, off a Ray Simpson assist, gave the Rebels their first lead of the game at 42-41. Case’s basket capped a 10-2 run by AC.
But Riverfield’s Bradley Bridges scored a basket as the third quarter ended, putting the Raiders back in the lead for good.
The Rebels scored only four points in the fourth quarter, and Casey Gould’s basket with two seconds remaining came too late to do any good.
The worst part is that Riverfield didn’t play up to its usual level. The Raiders had 25 first-half turnovers against a tough Adams Christian defense, but still led 27-25 at halftime.
Riverfield coach Donnie Foster said he was grateful to escape with a win.
&uot;Anytime you have 35 turnovers in a game and win, it’s amazing,&uot; Foster said.
Bailey Hogue led Riverfield with 13 points. Timmy Foster led the Rebels with 14, including two 3-pointers.
WCCA 43, Amite 36
LIBERTY &045; The Rams took another step forward with a convincing win over Amite School Center.
WCCA has only one district loss thus far, a defeat at Prentiss that WCCA hopes to avenge Friday night when they host the Saints.
&uot;We’re in the hunt for district,&uot; WCCA head coach Ray Olive said. &uot;That was one of our goals for the season, just to be in the hunt for the regular season district. We’re there.&uot;
Against the Rebels, WCCA showed why they have been playing so well lately. Greg Garner led the way with 18 points, helping the Rams get a 20-18 advantage at halftime and then exploding in the second half.
But it was the team effort that propelled WCCA to the win, Olive said.
Lavalle Johnson has 14 points for the Rams.
Tyler Bean led the way for ASC with 15 points.
Port Gibson 56, Jefferson 42
FAYETTE &045; The Blue Waves took command of this Division 7-3A game by outscoring the Tigers 20-8 in the first quarter and never looked back from there.

River Oaks 57, Huntington 50

Smith finished with 22 points and Lewis had 21 for the Warriors (7-4, 1-0).
Reggie Bowie led Block (0-15, 0-1) with 14 points and Devin Banks had 10.

HARRISONBURG, La. &045; The Bulldogs had their way with the Wolves in the first quarter and jumped out to a 23-10 lead at the end of the quarter and went on to a 19-point win in a District 3-B game.
Monterey (2-17, 0-2) cut the lead to eight at halftime, but an 18-10 advantage by Harrisonburg (18-9, 2-0) in the third quarter ended any thoughts of a comeback win for the Wolves.
Ethan Boothe and Antonio Jordan led the Bulldogs with 15 points each. Matt Shively led the Wolves with a game-high 17 points.
