BROOKHAVEN &045; Both of Cathedral’s varsity soccer teams were very victorious in their Division 7-1A/2A/3A games against Loyd Star Tuesday night as the Green Wave defeated the Hornets 3-2 and the Lady Green Wave defeated the Lady Hornets 3-1.

In the boys game, Will Carter scored Cathedral’s first goal at the 32nd minute of the first half.

&uot;It was ping-ponging in front of the goal,&uot; Green Wave head coach Rick Freeman said.

The Green Wave’s second goal was off a corner kick in which Cory Brock got to and scored from 12 yards out as they took a 2-0 halftime lead. Cathedral (5-4, 5-1) made it 3-0 as Brock scored again, this time from 18 yards with an assist from Eric Hollowell.

Loyd Star got its two goals later on in the second half as Patrick Holcombe scored on a long crossing kick at the 34th minute and Josh McCaffery score with 19 minutes left off a corner kick.

&uot;We left it right in front of the goal for them,&uot; Freeman said.

In the girls game, the Lady Green Wave scored two goals in the first half. Jamie Greer scored their first goal early in the first half.

&uot;Their was a scramble in front of the goal and I tapped it in,&uot; Greer said.

Later in the half, Lisa Mullins passed the ball to Kate Ellard, who kicked it in the right back corner to give Cathedral (4-4, 4-1) a 2-0 halftime lead.

Ellard scored her second goal of the game in the second half on a breakaway goal off a corner kick that gave the Lady Green Wave a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Hornets were stymied by a tough defense by Cathedral and didn’t score until less than a minute left on a goal by Krystle Irvin.

&uot;Jamie played a good game,&uot; Lady Green Wave head coach David Guade’ said. &uot;She scored a goal and played good defense.&uot;

A decision still has not been made by the Mississippi High School Activities Association as to whether last Friday night’s division game between Cathedral and North Pike’s girls teams will be called an official game or if it will be replayed.

North Pike was leading 3-1 at halftime when bad weather forced the game to be called.

Cathedral hosts Franklin County Friday night before having to think about North Pike, which it hosts Saturday afternoon.

&uot;I asked Coach (Roy) Garcia (Cathedral’s athletic director) about it and he told me he hadn’t heard anything,&uot; Gaude’ said. &uot;If we beat them Saturday, it does make a difference because we’ll ahead of them. If we don’t beat them it doesn’t make a difference because they’ll be ahead of us.

&uot;We play Franklin County Friday. We’ll take it one game at a time. We’re not looking ahead to North Pike.&uot;
