BROOKHAVEN — Jake Brumfield and Christopher Perry provided the power for the Adams County Christian School baseball team Friday night.

Perry and Brumfield both homered, and Brumfield gave up just two runs on the mound to lead the Rebels to a 15-2 win over the Brookhaven Academy Cougars Friday afternoon.

ACCS had a 2-1 lead after one inning of play before putting the game out of reach with five runs in the top of the second inning. Even though that would be all the run support Brumfield really needed, the Rebels were far from done.

After Brookhaven Academy scored one run in the bottom of the second to cut ACCS’s lead to 7-2, the Rebels scored two runs in the top of the third inning and then finished off the Cougars with six runs in the top of the fourth. The game ended after just four innings.

Brumfield went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and Perry delivered a two-run home run. Tyler Buckles led ACCS’s 11-hit attack by going 3-for-3 with a double. Tanner Martin and Brandon Ross had two hits each for the Rebels.

Will Lucas had half of the Cougars’ four hits as he went 2-for-2 at the plate.

Despite having a 16-6-1 overall record, ACCS will not be going to the playoffs after finishing third in MAIS District 5-AA behind Brookhaven Academy and Trinity Episcopal.

Centreville Academy 3,

Tri-County Academy 1

CENTREVILLE — After Hunter Devall gave up an unearned run in the top of the third inning, Cliff Hurst came on in relief and shut the door on the Tri-County Academy Rebels Friday night.

Hurst pitched four and two-thirds innings of no-hit and shutout ball and struck out nine batters while the Tigers’ offense finally woke up in time for them to come back and defeat Tri-County Academy in a battle of two of the top teams in the state.

Centreville Academy went into this game as the No. 2 ranked team in Class AA. Tri-County Academy entered the game ranked No. 2 in Class A. And the two teams did not disappoint.

Devall got the start for the Tigers and kept Tri-County off the scoreboard until the Rebels broke through in the top of the third inning that gave them a 1-0 lead. Devall lasted just two and one-third innings and gave up three hits to go with three strikeouts.

Centreville, meanwhile, didn’t get anything going until the bottom of fourth inning when the Tigers scored one run. The Tigers broke the 1-1 tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Centreville Academy (18-4) hosts Wilkinson County Christian Academy today with the JV game at 1 p.m. and the varsity game at 3 p.m.
