VIDALIA &045; First of the year housekeeping duties were the agenda for the Concordia Parish Police Jury Monday night.
The jury elected the same officers from last year to continue their duties this year. Melvin Ferrington will be the president, while Red Tiffee is vice president.
The jury also voted to pay annual dues including:
4The registrar of voters dues and registration of $300
4The Police Jury Association dues of $6,400
4Floodplain management dues for $30
4Parish administrative officials dues for $30
Ferrington and Secretary Russell Wagoner said these dues are something the jury agrees to pay each year.
In other business the jury agreed to upgrade the road priority list. Ferrington said the upgrade was necessary in accordance with the state audit and because it had not been updated in 15 years.
The jury voted to pay the president’s mileage.
No other jurors receive mileage payments, but Juror Cathy Darden said she felt it was right to pay the president’s because of the travel required by his job.
The president does not make more money than the other jurors.
They also passed an agreement with the town police stations for reimbursement for prisoners in the jail.
In the past the jury has paid for Vidalia and Ferriday prisoners housed in the Concordia Parish jail, but the two towns have agreed to pay for their misdemeanor offenders.
A request from the District Attorney’s office to use office space in the old courthouse building was tabled until further research of the space.
Jurors said several other organizations use the room and had concerns about when the district attorney’s office would want it and for what purpose.
Juror Willie Dunbar asked to be placed on the personnel committee.
&uot;I feel like we should have a chance to serve on different committees,&uot; Dunbar said. &uot;I don’t want to serve on the same committee for my whole term.&uot;
Ferrington agreed to add another person to the personnel committee in order to accommodate Dunbar’s request, but the motion died for the lack of a second and Dunbar was not put on the committee.
