Don’t put animal shelter in neighborhood

Am I dreaming or what? The City of Natchez Planning Commission has notified residents of Westover Subdivision that a public hearing will be on Thursday, April 19 concerning the humane society’s animal shelter.

The animal shelter is currently located at 392 Liberty Road. The request is to move the shelter south about 300 yards to Dameron Street.

Dameron Street, recently renamed David Massey Street, runs east and west and runs adjacent to my backyard and the backyards of 14 houses and across the street, about 14 more.

The street in front of my house is Lindberg Avenue.

I can’t understand why this would even be considered. Who wants to live across the street from an animal shelter?

Westover is a great subdivision with a lot of great people.

We can already hear the dogs barking from their present location.

It makes relaxing in the yard difficult.

I certainly plan to attend the planning commission’s meeting on April 19, and I hope the other home owners in Westover subdivision will join me.

The meeting will be at 5:15 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 115 South Pearl Street.
