NATCHEZ &045; After coming so close so many times, the Cathedral Lady Green Wave finally picked up their first Division 7-1A win of the season, and they did so in impressive fashion.

Five players scored at least eight points for the Lady Green Wave as they defeated the Mississippi School for the Deaf Lady Bulldogs 55-24 Tuesday night for their first two-game winning streak in several seasons.

Cathedral (5-16, 1-8) was led by Kristian Dobard and Madeline Jeansonne with 10 points each. Mattie Smith and Caitlin Huffines had nine points each and Claire Kenda had eight.

&uot;I told our four inside girls, Kristian, Mattie, Madeline and Claire, that we’ve missed so many shots,&uot; Lady Green Wave head coach Kathy Graning said. &uot;The last couple of games we made some more shots. They came through tonight.&uot;

And how about the defense the Lady Green Wave displayed against an MSD team that was off to a good start this season, but has struggled as of late. The Lady Bulldogs have now lost three in a row and four of their last five.

&uot;We played full-court man defense in the first half,&uot; Graning said. &uot;It got us some turnovers. We had some good fast breaks.&uot;

Not only that, the defense held MSD (10-11, 2-7) scoreless &045; that’s right, scoreless &045; in the first quarter. Cathedral led 13-0 at the end of that quarter and 28-7 at halftime. And the Lady Green Wave were going to make sure the Lady Bulldogs didn’t any attempt any big comeback in the third quarter.

Trinity 59, Centreville 46

FRANKLINTON, La. &045; Four players scored in double figures for the Lady Saints, who used a 22-8 advantage in the third quarter to turn a five-point halftime lead into a 19-point lead going into the fourth quarter in the first round of the District 4-AA tournament.

Molly Butts led Trinity (16-10) with 16 points. Eliza Jones, Mallory Archer and Brandy Hall had 11 points for the Lady Saints, who clinched a berth in the Class AA South State tournament next week at ACCS.

Kendall Madsen led Centreville (11-14) with 14 points.

WCCA 49, Union Academy 29

GEORGETOWN &045; Erin Ashley scored almost as many points by herself as Union did as a team as she scored a game-high 26 points to help the Lady Rams defeat the host Lady Saints in the first round of the District 6-A tournament.

WCCA (9-15) led by just three points at the end of a low-scoring first quarter, 8-5. Then the Lady Rams picked up their offense while their defense continued to play outstanding as they outscored Union (4-17) a combined 29-12 over the next two quarters to put the game out of reach.

Huntington 51, Briarfield 37

FERRIDAY, La. &045; Marie Miller came off the bench to lead Huntington with 14 points and reserve Amber McGlothin pulled down 13 rebounds to go with seven points to help the Lady Hounds to a key win in a District 7-A game.

Krystal Arnold had 10 points and Katie Moak added nine as Huntington (14-12, 6-3), which outscored Briarfield (2-7, 7-14) 16-9 in the second quarter to take a 10-point halftime lead. Amy Amacker led the Lady Rebels with 23 points.

Harrisonburg 38, Monterey 35

MONTEREY, La. &045; The second quarter was the turning point in this important District 3-B game for both teams as the Lady Bulldogs held the Lady Wolves to just two points and held on for the win.

Harrisonburg (26-9, 6-1) won the game despite having no players score in double figures. Kara Johnson and Jasmine Dunbar led the Lady Bulldogs with eight points each. Morgan White led Monterey (20-10, 4-2) with 10 points and Kassie Kennedy had nine.

Ferriday 55, Davidson 46

ST. JOSEPH, La. &045; The Lady Trojans recovered from perhaps the worst first quarter in recent memory by outscoring the Lady Warriors 22-3 in the second quarter and then pulled away in the second half for the win.

Ferriday (19-6) trailed Davidson (5-16) 18-2 at the end of the first quarter before turning things around in the second quarter. Jameca Garrison led the Lady Trojans with a game-high 27 points. Adrienne Jones led the Lady Warriors with 16 points.

Wilkinson 47, South Pike 38

WOODVILLE &045; The Lady Wildcats (19-5) overcame a slow start on both ends of the court. Trailing 15-11 after one quarter of play, they outscored the Lady Eagles 10-5 in the second quarter and 15-8 in the third quarter en route to the nine-point win.

Nakia Stewart led Wilkinson County with 18 points and Kimberly Griffin had 14.

Tensas 73, Tallulah 36

ST. JOSEPH, La. &045; The Lady Chiefs wrapped up the MPSA District 7-A championship with an impressive win over the Lady Trojans and will be the number one seed from that district in next week’s Class A South State Tournament.

Aubrey McEacharn led Tensas (19-6, 9-0) with 19 points.
