Lake Providence downs Ferriday girls

LAKE PROVIDENCE, La. &045; The Ferriday Lady Trojans were already in a tough environment, and the goal was to pull the upset to stay in the race for the No. 2 spot out of District 4-2A.

Lake Providence, however, didn’t see things that way.

The Lady Panthers ran the floor well and jumped on the Lady Trojans (1-3, 19-7) early before taking a 62-31 win as the regular season nears end. Then Lake P controlled the inside game and had three players finish in double figures in scoring to put the game away.

&uot;We got beat on the boards,&uot; Ferriday head coach Lisa Abron said. &uot;We weren’t getting back to stop their fast break. We just never could get anything going offensively. I don’t know. I think they just weren’t into it tonight. We weren’t focused. Nothing was going for us tonight.&uot;

The Lady Panthers (3-1, 17-5) led 12-5 after one and 28-13 at half before out-scoring Ferriday 19-7 in the third to lead 47-20 heading into the fourth quarter.

Jameca Garrison led Ferriday with 18 points. Regina Clayten led Lake P with 16.

Natchez 70, Jefferson Co. 60

NATCHEZ &045; It was Senior Night and Sweetheart Night for the rivalry matchup with Natchez and Jefferson, and the Tigers never played the role of party favor.

The Tigers (5-22) had a down second quarter but made the Bulldogs earn the win. Natchez (16-10) led 17-14 after one but pulled away a bit in the second with an 18-12 advantage to lead 35-26 at half.

The Bulldogs then led 47-37 heading into the fourth quarter.

Joseph Kemp led Jefferson with 22. Michael Chatman and Rodney Gray each had 15 to lead the Bulldogs.

Epps boys 62, Monterey 48

EPPS, La. &045; The Panthers (4-2, 17-14) wasted little time in getting out to the lead against Monterey, claiming a 22-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Monterey answered at times after that, trimming the deficit by five in the second for a 30-18 Epps lead at half. The Panthers led 45-27 heading into the fourth quarter before Monterey (0-7, 2-24) scored 21 points in the fourth quarter.

Layton Strebeck led Monterey with 20.

FHS 57, Lake Providence 38

LAKE PROVIDENCE, La. &045; The Trojans stayed in position to make a statement in District 4-2A with a solid win on the road against the Panthers before hosting McCall Tuesday.

The Trojans (3-1, 20-9) held a modest 19-18 lead at halftime before ringing up a 23-6 edge in the third quarter to lead 42-24 over the Panthers (0-4, 0-6) heading into the fourth quarter.

LaDerrick Metcalf led Ferriday with 15 points.

Newellton 78, Block 59

NEWELLTON, La. &045; The Newellton Bears got things really rolling in the second half after taking a 31-26 lead over Block (0-7, 1-25) at half.

Newellton (1-3, 1-4) out-scored Block 26-12 in the third quarter to break the game open and lead 57-38 heading into the fourth quarter.

Josh Sampson led Block with 25 points. Marcus Hill led Newellton with 29.
