Saints get by Copiah for win; Bulldogs rally in final at-bat

GALLMAN &045; The Trinity Episcopal Saints picked up another win Monday thanks to solid defense and a strong outing on the mound from Kolby Godfrey.
The Saints struck early before taking a 5-2 win over Copiah for the second straight win.
Godfrey tossed a complete game while allowing one hit and giving up two runs in the fifth on no hits.
The Colonels got their lone hit in the sixth inning on a Brock Campbell single, but he was left stranded. Godfrey retired the side in order in the seventh with two strikeouts.
Catcher Zach Rogel threw out two baserunners trying to steal second.
The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the first when Rogel reached on an error, went to third on a Kyle Dunaway single and scored on a wild pitch.
They tacked on another in the third when Rogel singled, went to third on a Dunaway single and scored when the throw to third went wild.
The Saints scored three in the fourth when Wells Middleton’s groundout back to the mound scored Kyle Ketchings and Rogel’s single scored Jon Griffey and Godfrey.

MONTEREY, La. &045; The Wolves couldn’t take advantage of solid performance on the mound from Gary Evans as the Bears took the win Monday behind pitcher Evan White’s two-hit shutout.
The Wolves fanned 13 times against White and had just two singles. They put a runner on third in the fourth inning as Max Green singled, stole second and went to third before White struck out the next two batters to end the inning.
Evans singled in the first inning with one out but was left stranded.
&uot;He was hitting his spots,&uot; Monterey head coach Hank Zizzi said. &uot;It was his night, but it was Gary’s night, too. Gary only gave up one run. We just didn’t hit the ball. Our defense came through tonight.&uot;
Evans finished the game with five strikeouts and three walks.
Natchez 13, St. Aloysius 12
NATCHEZ &045; Natchez High rallied in its last at-bat to take a wild win over the Flashes thanks to a six-run seventh.
The Flashes led 12-7 heading into the bottom half of the seventh before the Bulldogs got rolling. Johnny Williams led off with a walk, stole second and scored when Ja-Mes Logan reached on an error.
Jeremy Ellis singled, and Edward Johnson singled to score Logan. Desmond Smoot walked to load the bases, and Brandon Smith was hit by a pitch to force in a run and trim the lead to 12-10.
C.J. Wright then came up with a huge two-run single to score Johnson and Smoot to tie the score at 12. C.J. Cothern then singled in Smith to end the game.
&uot;They just didn’t ever give up,&uot; Natchez High head coach Charlie Williams said. &uot;We came through with the hits in the last inning, and they were determined they were going to win. They didn’t give up for a change.&uot;
The Flashes took the lead early with six runs in the fourth for a 6-1 lead off starter Robert Perry. Perry went into the fifth inning before Robert Woods entered and struck out the side.
Natchez tied it up in the fourth with five runs, but the Flashes picked up one in the sixth and three in the seventh.
&uot;The pitching came through,&uot; Williams said. &uot;That was the best I got out of them all year.&uot;
