The goal of Adams County’s Girl Scouts was to fill two large trucks with clothes, toys and other donated items for Good Will Industries by noon Saturday.
But at 11:30 a.m., they had already filled one-and-a-half trucks, and no one could have been more pleased than Frances Bailey, Girl Scout coordinator for Adams County.
&uot;We thank everyone for coming out,&uot; Bailey said.
As she spoke, a steady stream of Girl Scouts, their families and other local residents came to the old Wal-Mart building at Magnolia Mall with bags filled with donations.
Adams County Girl Scouts have been doing the project annually for six years and, before that, had assisted local Boy Scouts with the project, Bailey said. Last year, the only truck Good Will brought was filled in no time &045; so this year, the organization brought two.
&uot;It’s to help people who don’t have things like us,&uot; said Latasha Woods of Troop 660.
In addition to being a good excuse for spring cleaning, Troop 357 Scout Madison King said she took part &uot;just to be nice to people.&uot;
Angela Brooks, assistant leader for Troop 862, said that &uot;a lot of the girls enjoy doing community service.&uot;
That doesn’t just go for this particular project, but for all the community service activities local Girl Scouts take part in all year long, Bailey said.
Those include visiting local nursing homes, volunteering for the Stewpot and collecting canned goods for various charities. Last Make a Difference Day, the Scouts collected items for, and distributed them at, the Guardian Shelter.
