NATCHEZ &045; Led by Timmy Foster’s performance on the mound and at the plate as well as big hits by David Trisler and Ray Simpson, the Adams Christian Rebels rolled to a 14-1 win over Chamberlain-Hunt in a District 3-AA game Tuesday afternoon.
Even though he pitched just the first two innings, Foster pretty much had his way with Chamberlain-Hunt’s batters with five strikeouts. He allowed just one hit, a double by Mercer.
&uot;He did fine,&uot; Rebels head coach Gill Morris said. &uot;I wanted to get him a couple of innings in to get ready for the game Friday against Brookhaven (Academy). He threw 30 pitches. Then Corey Walker finished the last three innings.&uot;
ACCS (3-1, 2-0) put the game away by scoring 12 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Foster started the scoring barrage with a double that scored Simpson, who led off the inning with a walk, and Dustin Case, who was hit by a pitch. After Trisler walked and David Alton New walked, Jamie Morris was hit by a pitch that scored Foster.
Brian Smith then drove in Trisler and New with a single. Simpson then tripled to score Morris and Smith. Case then doubled in Simpson, Cole Bradford doubled to score Case and Foster doubled for the second time in the inning, this time scoring Bradford.
Trisler then put the exclamation point on the inning with his two-run home run. The Wildcats somehow got out of the inning without any more runs being scored on them.
Cathedral 7, Monterey 4
MONTEREY, La. &045; Cathedral pitcher Charlie Lane had a solid game on the mound while the Green Wave bats made up for seven errors by the defense as the defending MHSAA Class 1A state champions rallied to defeat the Wolves.
Lane pitched a complete game to go to 3-0, allowing no earned runs on three hits while striking out eight and walking just one.
&uot;Charlie did a good job considering the defense behind him,&uot; Green Wave head coach Craig Beesley said. &uot;We struggled defensively. We made routine plays look difficult. Hopefully we can snap out of our defensive lapse.&uot;
The game went back and forth between the two teams and the score was tied at 2-2 after four innings. But just when Monterey thought it was going to pull off a huge upset, Cathedral (8-1) took the lead for good with a three-run rally in the top of the fifth inning.
&uot;We made good contact with the ball and they made good defensive plays,&uot; Wolves head coach Hank Zizzi said. &uot;We played a lot better defense.&uot;
Centreville 6, Huntington 3
CENTREVILLE &045; Huntington pitcher Trey Keith pitched good enough to give the Hounds a chance to take the win. Unfortunately, the defense made a couple of costly errors in the latter innings that enable the Tigers to get the victory.
&uot;We pitched real well,&uot; Hounds head coach Mitch Ashmore said. &uot;We played pretty solid. We just had a couple of mistakes that cost us. We had four unearned runs. Just a couple of mistakes that cost us late.&uot;
